Water Saving in Rainwater Butts
It doesn't matter if we have a little or loads of rain in Spring or Summer as you will always find a use for stored rainwater for your plants, fishpond top up, car washing etc. It really is worth collecting rainwater and storing it in large butts or even larger water tanks ready for use. If you are on a water meter, then it is even more essential to help keep those water bills as low as possible besides being environmentally responsible. Although we are only looking at rainwater butts here we are able to look at much larger rainwater harvesting schemes if you would contact us through our response form. With a large tank you can even consider installing a solar powered or photo-voltaic cell powered water pump to run a hose or irrigation system.
Having collected your rainwater , the easiest way to make sure that your plants get the water they require is for you to have a little gentle exercise and use your favourite watering can to gently moisten their compost and sprinkle the leaves with a fine spray. It's best to water in the morning or evening when the sun has moved away from the flowering plants and also so that the water penetrates into the soil and compost before it evaporates in hot weather.
