A large Imported sandstone paved patio laid in a random pattern.
Pictures above showing the sideway towards the front pedestrian gate and along the back. The existing brick walls were losing the pointing and starting to break up. The existing paving was a rather utilitarian grey in simple straight jointed pattern.
These pictures show the amount of construction and preparation that was required after all the existing slabs, brickwork and grass sideway had been cleared. The orange barrier fence was used to try and keep the owners elderly dog, a Doberman from wandering through the dust and soil (mud when it rained!) where we had disturbed the grass area.
Concrete 200mm wide hollow block walls were built onto new footings and the top shaped to follow the rise and sweep around the radius corner. The blockwork was rendered prior to having two coats of exterior sand textured masonry paint applied by brush and roller. The patio paving looks rather light in these pictures as it was still rather dusty from the construction. The picture of the corner bed with the phormium tenax in it shows up the real sandstone colouring better.
The triangular plum coloured slate bed had a simple box (Buxus Sempervirens) sphere placed in it with a group of lavender near the point and hostas at each side to the rear. Red Brindle pavers provide a clean edge to the paving and also show where the lawn edge is from the paving.
We used simple stainless steel spike mounted spotlights to highlight the key planting and reused the clients existing lanterns in new positions.
